Rosier

The Old Church Theatre, 755 Harmston, Courtenay, BC

Sarah Marchand (voice, piano), Béatrix Méthé (voice, violin, synth), Éléonore Pitre (guitar, voice), Marie Savoie-Levac (bass, voice), Colin Savoie-Levac (guitar, lap steel, foot rhythm, banjo, voice).

Rosier is immediately the unmissable invitation to lush territory. Resolutely folk and endowed with a great affection for detail, which is found everywhere and even in the vibrant visual identity that it endorses, the Montreal-based group is carefully betting on democratizing a musical genre that is rather crystallized in its borders. Invested in a daring approach where traditional song becomes the intimate accomplice of sought-after pop and vice versa, Rosierskilfully juxtaposes harmonies and textures. Light and shimmering. The result is a mature and airy proposition, although anchored in its roots, and whose personality can be appreciated from the first notes. Bilingual, feminist and four-fifths feminine, the band dares to follow its instincts and alternates between French and English, acoustic and electric, according to the colors and fresh scents to which it aspires.

Accustomed to local and international tours since its inception, the quintet has to date performed in major cities and in several villages around the world. Highlights include the Edmonton Folk Festival , TSB Festival Of Lights (New Zealand), Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (USA), Port Fairy Folk Festival (Australia), Tonder Folk Festival (Denmark), Festival Pause -Guitar (France), Bardentreffen Festival (Germany), Itinerari Folk Festival (Italy), Bromyard Folk Fesitval (UK), Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland) and theFrancophone Games in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), to name a few.

With, moreover, a convincing collection of music to their credit — the albums and maxis Légèrement (2021), Rosier (2019), Morose (2017), Ste-Waves (2014), Hébertisme Nocturne (2011) — and hundreds of thousands of occurrences on streaming platforms, the ten-handed project is betting on a clear direction: one where the original combines with the existing, and where the stories passed down from generation to generation are revived through a breath of today. And the magic operates and is received. It is that there emerges an ease, a benevolence and something reassuring to see Rosiermove. A franchise that makes you shiver as it is loaded with beauty. The feeling of a confection saturated with love. Something like a precious gift, this rosebush.
